Shen and Lindsey carried their argument to the streets of Luna City after dining.
“You make me feel like I’m not good enough,” Shen said as he looked at an electric shuttle pod running by the side of the street.
Lindsey scoffed. “And Cindy does?” She quickened her pace.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Shen sped up to walk beside his girlfriend. “What does she have to do with anything?”
“To think,” she shook her head, “that we work together and yet you still want to go on a space flight with her. No, you’re the one who makes me feel like I’m not good enough, Shen.”
He threw his hands up in the air. “You didn’t even want to go platinum mining. In fact, you never liked asteroid mining. If you like staying moonside, that’s fine. But I’m going to earn some extra money the way I can,” said Shen.
“With her,” Lindsey replied.
“Oh come on. Half the team is female. I’m going to get female partners sometimes.”
“I’m talking about Cindy specifically, Shen. I see how you talk to her. It’s just all too convenient that you’ll be alone with her, where no one can see or hear you. Just tell me the truth, it’s obvious to me; you’re planning an affair.”
“That’s just—” another shuttle pod passed by, forcing Shen to yell, “not true!”
They both stopped arguing as they noticed their assistant director for Helix Mining Corp, Andrew, not too far up the street. Lindsey smiled and broke away from Shen.
“Hey Andrew!” she walked up to him slowly, and he returned the greeting with a smile. As Shen stood by, the two kissed in front of him. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
“What the hell?” was all he could say to himself at that moment.
Lindsey turned to face him. “Run along, Shen. The shuttle pods will stop running soon; you wouldn’t want to miss your ride home.”
Shen clenched his teeth so hard he thought they would crack. All he saw was the two people in front of him: Lindsey and her mocking grin, and Andrew with his placid demeanor. For a moment, he thought about violence. How good it would feel to smash Andrew’s soft face with his fist, and see how Lindsey would react then. He tightened his fists.
Then, he shook his head, and let go. Violence was only going to make everything worse. He ignored the two, and the shuttle pods, and made his way to another familiar home. He still had Cindy, after all.
